Intent

An Intent is a canonical expression of a desired future condition sponsored by an identifiable Actor or Principal.

04 §9.1 · Intent · RSM Canonical Model & Protocol Specification

In RSMOne's words

Outcome Formation begins with an Intent rather than with a catalog listing. A buyer seeking regeneratively grown grain at a volume no single farm supplies expresses an Intent; it describes what is sought, not what exists or what will eventually occur.

What it is not

  • Intent ≠ Commitment

An Intent states what an Actor or Principal wants to bring about; a Commitment is an authoritative undertaking to contribute toward it, and expressing the first does not create the second. 04 §9.1 · Intent
